Udupi district experienced significant rainfall across various locations, interrupting the eagerly awaited Sankranti celebrations. The downpour also created difficulties for the chariot procession (Rathotsava) at Udupi Shri Krishna Math. The stormy weather, accompanied by thunder and lightning, added to the ongoing disruptions.
The erratic weather conditions are being linked to cyclonic activities in the eastern sea and atmospheric disturbances over the Bay of Bengal, which are affecting the western coastal areas.
Heavy rainfall was observed in several parts of Udupi, particularly in Karkala, Hebri, and Kaup. Thunderstorms and lightning were reported in Karkala and Hebri, while lighter rainfall occurred in sections of Udupi and Kaup taluks.
The meteorological department has predicted the continuation of rainfall for the upcoming two days, suggesting that the weather may remain unsettled for some time.
