Udupi: In response to intense and continuous rainfall across the Udupi district, authorities have issued a red alert and declared a holiday for students of Anganwadis, primary, and high schools on Friday, June 13.

The District Disaster Management Authority has initiated precautionary steps as the region has been lashed by heavy downpours over the past several days.

The closure applies to all educational institutions up to high school level—including government, aided, unaided, and CBSE schools. However, pre-university colleges, degree institutions, post-graduate centres, engineering colleges, diploma, and ITI colleges will operate as usual.

Parents have been strongly urged to keep children away from low-lying areas, water bodies, seashores, and riverbanks to avoid risk. Fisherfolk have also been cautioned not to venture into the sea.

Taluk-level officials have been directed to stay at their headquarters, while nodal officers designated by the district administration have been told to remain on alert and promptly respond to public concerns. Tahsildars have been instructed to maintain continuous communication and oversee ground-level preparedness.

For emergencies, a 24×7 control room is active at toll-free number 1077.
