Torrential rains continued to lash Udupi district, causing widespread property damage and disruption to routine life. Numerous incidents were reported across the region due to tree falls and waterlogging, as the district struggles under the weight of nature’s fury.
One serious case occurred in Kodavoor ward, Thondubettu, where a massive tree crashed onto the home of Girija Madivalthi, causing substantial structural damage. Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna visited the site, offering reassurances that compensation would be arranged through the revenue department.
In another incident, a large tree collapsed on a main road in Havanje, halting vehicular traffic. Local authorities were promptly informed, and efforts are currently in progress to clear debris and restore road access.
The ongoing downpour has led to damage estimated at ₹7.4 lakh across the district, highlighting the intensity and impact of the rains.
According to rainfall data, Hebri taluk recorded the highest precipitation at 114 mm, followed by Brahmavar (93.3 mm), Byndoor (83.9 mm), Udupi (80.9 mm), Kundapura (68.2 mm), Karkala (53.6 mm), and Kaup (48.9 mm).
With the rains showing no signs of slowing, the district administration remains on alert to manage further emergencies.
