Kaup: A scooter rider sustained serious injuries after an express bus collided with his vehicle near Sai Service Station on National Highway 66 in Kaup on Thursday morning. The accident occurred at the junction connecting the Kaup service road and the highway, resulting in severe injuries to the rider and causing temporary disruption to traffic movement in the area.
The injured rider has been identified as Ganesh Patri, a native of Sasihithlu in Mangaluru who is currently residing in Kaup.
According to reports, the express bus was travelling from Mangaluru towards Udupi along the service road when it collided with the scooter, which was moving on the highway from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision left the rider seriously injured.
Locals rush injured rider to hospital
Following the accident, local residents and motorists who witnessed the incident immediately came to the rider’s aid. An ambulance was called to the spot, and Ganesh Patri was shifted to a hospital in Udupi for treatment.
The extent of his injuries has not yet been officially disclosed. Medical personnel are reportedly providing the necessary treatment and monitoring his condition.
The prompt response of local residents helped ensure that the injured rider received medical attention without delay.
Bus mounts divider after collision
After colliding with the scooter, the express bus lost control and mounted the road divider before eventually coming to a halt. The incident narrowly avoided a potentially major mishap, as the bus could have crossed into other lanes of traffic or collided with additional vehicles.
The bus sustained damage in the accident, while the scooter was also damaged due to the impact.
Witnesses said the situation could have been far more serious had the bus not come to a stop after climbing onto the divider.

Kaup police personnel visited the scene soon after the accident and conducted an inspection. Officers gathered preliminary information and examined the circumstances that led to the collision.
