Severe coastal erosion in Nadipatna, under the Padubidri grama panchayat of the Kaup Assembly constituency, has put shoreline homes at risk. On Saturday, July 27, MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, along with Fisheries and Ports Minister Mankal Vaidya, visited the area to assess the situation.

The erosion has already led to the loss of several coconut trees and damaged the access road to the Blue Flag Beach in Nadipatna. Recognizing the urgency, MLA Shetty urged the minister to approve immediate funding to address the issue.

In response, Minister Vaidya announced a grant of Rs 1 crore and instructed that work to mitigate the erosion commence immediately. This prompt action aims to protect the affected homes and prevent further environmental degradation.

Also present during the visit were Padubidri GP president Shashikala, members Vidyashri, District BJP vice-president Prakash Shetty Padebettu, former zilla panchayat member Shashikant Padubidri, along with fishing community leaders and local residents. Their presence underscored the community’s concern and the collaborative effort needed to address the erosion crisis.

The government’s swift response highlights the importance of safeguarding coastal areas and supporting vulnerable communities. As work begins to combat the erosion, local residents remain hopeful that the measures will effectively protect their homes and livelihoods.
