Udupi district faced significant damage on July 3rd as approximately 27 houses suffered severe destruction due to heavy winds and rainfall, resulting in reported losses amounting to Rs 1.32 crore. The adverse weather conditions also caused the toppling of numerous trees and electric poles across various locations, with Kadekar village particularly affected by broken power poles.

In response, the Revenue Department, MESCOM (Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited), and local fire brigade swiftly initiated operations to assess and address the aftermath of the storm. Efforts are underway to restore essential services and provide relief to affected residents.

Rainfall varied across the district with Udupi recording 26.4mm, Karkala taluk 20.1mm, Kundapura 50.01mm, Byndoor 34.3mm, Brahmavara 30.4mm, Kapu 14.8mm, and Hebri 42.4mm. These varying intensities contributed to localized damages and disruptions.

MLA Yashpal Suvarna announced plans to visit the affected areas accompanied by officials on Friday morning. Coordination efforts with authorities in Bengaluru are also underway to ensure timely assistance and support for recovery efforts.

The incident underscores the vulnerability of coastal regions to severe weather events and highlights the importance of preparedness and response measures in mitigating such impacts.
