On Monday, July 8, parts of the district faced significant flooding after enduring heavy downpours, prompting swift emergency responses to rescue affected students and residents.

The worst-hit areas included Gundibail and vicinity near Krishna Math, where torrential rains led to water inundating a girls’ PG accommodation. Emergency teams, including fire services, promptly evacuated stranded students and assisted residents trapped in flooded homes.

The incessant rainfall submerged several roads across the district, exacerbating water levels in low-lying regions. Streets resembled rivers as drainage systems struggled to cope with the deluge, causing widespread disruption.

In Gundibail, artificial flooding posed imminent risks, necessitating urgent rescue operations by fire crews. Many residents were successfully evacuated from inundated homes.

Meanwhile, in Udupi, numerous households found themselves surrounded by rising waters, amplifying the impact of the flooding. The municipal commissioner of Udupi visited Gundibail to assess the situation firsthand and coordinate relief efforts.
