Udupi: Malpe police have registered a case based on a complaint filed by a 69-year-old woman who alleged that her younger son forcibly transferred her property into his name after assaulting and threatening her.
The complainant, identified as Sarasu Suvarna, alleged that her son, Vinod Suvarna, repeatedly pressured her to transfer ownership of her house and land to him.
Allegations of assault and threats
According to the complaint lodged with the police, Sarasu Suvarna was residing with her second son, Vinod Suvarna, in a house registered in her name in Badanidiyoor village.
She alleged that Vinod had been persistently demanding that the property be transferred to his name. When she refused to comply, he allegedly assaulted both her and her husband, Dasu Thingalaya, and threatened them with consequences.
The complainant further stated that she was subjected to repeated intimidation and coercion in connection with the property dispute.
Property allegedly transferred against her will
According to the complaint, Vinod allegedly forced his mother to visit the sub-registrar’s office and got the ownership of her 11 cents of land and the house transferred to his name against her wishes.
Sarasu Suvarna alleged that she had not consented to the transfer and was compelled to complete the formalities under pressure and threats.
She also accused her son of warning her not to disclose the incident to anyone.
Family allegedly evicted after court proceedings
Subsequently, Sarasu Suvarna approached the AC court seeking legal action regarding the alleged forcible transfer of the property.
The complainant alleged that upon learning about the court proceedings, Vinod forced her, her husband Dasu Thingalaya and their daughter, Vinutha, out of the house.
The family has accused him of unlawfully dispossessing them from the property that was originally registered in the mother’s name.
Police begin investigation
Based on the complaint, Malpe police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the allegations.
Officials said statements from the complainant and other concerned individuals are being recorded and relevant documents related to the property transfer will be examined as part of the inquiry.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances under which the property transfer took place and determine whether any offences relating to coercion, assault or intimidation have been committed.
