Udupi: A case has been registered at Kaup Police Station after a video showing passengers, including students, dangerously hanging from the footboard of a private bus while travelling went viral on social media.

Bus found carrying passengers beyond permit limit

The incident reportedly took place on August 14, when a private express bus was travelling from Kaup towards Udupi.

According to the complaint, the driver and conductor were allegedly violating the conditions of the bus permit by carrying passengers beyond the permitted capacity.

The overcrowding raised serious concerns over the safety of passengers travelling on the route.

Students seen hanging from footboard

The viral video reportedly showed students and other passengers travelling in a dangerous manner, with some seen hanging from the footboard of the moving bus.

Such travel poses a serious risk to passengers, particularly students who may be forced to depend on overcrowded public transport during busy hours.

Police register suo motu case

Following the incident, police registered a suo motu case at Kaup Police Station.

The case alleges that the bus was being driven recklessly and negligently, disregarding passenger safety and in a manner that could endanger the lives of those travelling on it.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over overcrowding in private buses and the need for strict adherence to permit conditions and passenger safety norms.
