Udupi: Thousands of students, parents and members of the public participated in a massive protest rally in Manipal on Friday, voicing their opposition to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The student-led demonstration, one of the largest witnessed in the region in recent months, highlighted growing concerns over the examination system and calls for reforms in higher education admissions.
The rally commenced at Coin Circle in Manipal and concluded at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Udupi. Participants marched through the designated route carrying placards and banners while raising slogans against NEET and urging the Union government to introduce a more transparent and equitable admission process.
Students demand reforms in examination system
The protesters alleged that the present examination system places immense pressure on students preparing for medical admissions and called for comprehensive reforms to ensure fairness and equal opportunities for all aspirants.
Throughout the march, students raised slogans demanding accountability from the Union Education Ministry. They said the examination process should uphold merit while ensuring transparency and reducing the stress associated with highly competitive entrance tests.
Several participants carried placards expressing their concerns about the future of students and the need for an education system that prioritises equal access and credibility.
Protest draws widespread public support
What began as a student-led movement drew participation from various sections of society. School students, college students, parents, senior citizens and social activists joined the rally in solidarity, reflecting broad public concern over issues related to competitive examinations.

Peaceful march through Manipal
The procession moved peacefully from Coin Circle towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office, attracting attention from commuters and local residents along the route.

Police personnel were deployed along the protest route to regulate traffic and maintain law and order during the demonstration. Adequate security arrangements were made to facilitate the smooth movement of the rally and prevent any untoward incidents.
