Udupi: Brahmavar police have arrested three persons in connection with allegations that a Mangaluru-based finance company was providing loans at exorbitant interest rates and harassing members of the public over repayment of pending instalments.
The case was registered at Brahmavar police station based on a complaint filed by Rajesh Naik.
Motorcycle allegedly seized over loan dispute
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly forcibly took away a motorcycle belonging to Ganesh Ganiga of Kunjal over an issue related to a loan carrying an allegedly exorbitant interest rate.
It was also alleged that Rajesh Naik, who had stood as a guarantor for the loan, was assaulted.
Three accused arrested
Acting under the guidance of Udupi Sub-Divisional Police Officer Belliyappa and Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, investigating officer and Brahmavar Police Sub-Inspector Ashok Malabagi, assisted by crime staff Kiran and Siddappa Sakenalli, arrested Sandeep Shetty of Kulai and Vijeeth Shetty of Kavoor in Mangaluru on August 6.
The two accused were subsequently produced before the court.
Police arrested another accused, Sampath of Bajpe, Malavoor in Mangaluru, on August 13.
Motorcycle and car seized
As part of the investigation, police seized the motorcycle allegedly taken away from Ganesh Ganiga. They also seized the car allegedly used in the commission of the offence.
The investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged loan dispute, the recovery of the vehicle and the allegations made in the complaint.
