Udupi: Three women who recovered after undergoing treatment for mental illness have been admitted to the State Women’s Shelter at Nittur after authorities were unable to trace their families.

The women were rescued from different parts of Udupi district over the past one-and-a-half months and were provided medical care before being shifted to the shelter following due procedures.

Rescued from different locations

The rescued women have been identified as Khushiya (30) from Uttar Pradesh, Anita (35) from Maharashtra, and Jayanti Poojary (45) from Aatradi in Udupi district.

Khushiya was found within the jurisdiction of Kaup police station, while Anita was located under Manipal police station limits. Jayanti Poojary, a local resident, was found under the Hiriyadka police station jurisdiction.

All three women were rescued by social worker Vishu Shetty of Ambalpady, who has been actively involved in humanitarian efforts in the region.

Successful treatment and recovery

After their rescue, the women were admitted for medical treatment and care. Doctors attending to them confirmed that they responded well to the treatment and gradually regained normal mental health.

The treatment was provided under the supervision of doctors Dr Vasudev and Dr Sunil, along with support from ECRC Suresh. Following recovery, the women were discharged from the hospital.

Officials stated that the improvement in their condition reflects the effectiveness of timely intervention and proper medical care.

Relatives yet to be traced

Despite efforts by authorities and the rescuer, the relatives of the three women could not be traced. Police initiated inquiries and followed standard procedures to identify their families, but no leads have been established so far.

As per legal requirements, individuals without identifiable guardians or family support must be placed under institutional care to ensure their safety and well-being.

Shifted to State Women’s Shelter

Following due police and legal procedures, Vishu Shetty admitted the three women to the State Women’s Shelter at Nittur. The facility provides accommodation, care, and rehabilitation support for women in need of protection.

Authorities have assured that the women will continue to receive necessary care and support at the shelter until their families are located or alternative arrangements are made.

Appeal to trace families

In an official release, an appeal has been made to the public to help trace the relatives of the three women. Anyone with relevant information has been urged to contact the State Women’s Shelter at Nittur or the concerned authorities.

Officials believe that public cooperation could play a crucial role in reuniting the women with their families.

Conclusion

The case highlights both the importance of timely rescue and medical care, as well as the challenges in tracing families of vulnerable individuals. While the three women have successfully recovered, efforts continue to reunite them with their loved ones. Until then, the State Women’s Shelter at Nittur will ensure their safety and rehabilitation.
