Udupi: The district has witnessed a spate of thefts, with three cases reported across various police stations.

  1. Gold jewellery stolen from house in Brahmavar: A complaint filed by Baby, 30, from Nadur village, Brahmavar, stated that between 7:30 pm on December 26 and 1:35 am the next day, unknown miscreants broke into her house while she and her mother attended a nearby event. They stole gold jewellery worth Rs 4.5 lakh. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station.
  2. Gold stolen from Karkala jewellery shop: On December 27, Renuka Dilip Salunke, 32, from Kasaba village, Karkala, reported that a thief entered Pranav Jewellery, pretending to be a customer. After asking to see gold earrings and silver rings, the accused allegedly stole a packet containing three pairs of gold earrings and three gold rings before fleeing. A case has been filed at Karkala Town police station.
  3. Navaratna gold ring stolen in Byndoor: On December 14, Manjunath, 46, from Byndoor, reported that a man dressed as a Naga Sadhu visited his shop, performed a ritual, and convinced him to place his sovereign Navaratna gold ring in the prasad. When the Sadhu left, Manjunath discovered that the ring was missing. A case was registered at Byndoor police station.
