Udupi: To mark World Kundapra Kannada Day, the Kalakshetra Kundapur Trust will organize a full-day rural sports festival, “Lagori,” on July 20 at the Kundapur Board High School grounds, announced Trust President Kishore Kumar Kundapur at a press conference.

Highlighting the event’s goal, Kishore Kumar stated that the trust has been hosting this traditional sports gathering for the past two years to reconnect people—especially the youth—with indigenous games that are fading from everyday life. The event will run from 9 AM to 7 PM.

The competitions are divided into individual and open categories. For children under 12 years, events include Target Shooting, Chakravyuha, Gunny Bag Race, Cycle Tire Race, and Nimma Kalguna. For those under 17, activities like Salt Bag Race, Goota Sutti Race, and Kambala have been arranged.

The open category (up to 65 years) will feature traditional challenges such as Blindfolded Pot Breaking, Cycle Tire Race, Gunny Bag Race, and Kambala for both men and women.

Team events include Lagori, Chendan Ball, and Tug of War for men, with top prizes of ₹12,000 and ₹8,000. Women can compete in Bench Ball, Donkalu, and Throw Ball, with the first prize of ₹5,000 and second ₹3,000. Winners of the Tug of War event will receive ₹8,000 and ₹5,000, respectively.

Entry is free, and interested participants can contact 98447 83053 for registration.

Trustees Rajesh Kaveri, Sridhar Suvarna, Ramachandra, and K.R. Nayak were also present at the press meet.
