Udupi: In a heartbreaking incident, a patient being rushed to a hospital in Manipal died after the ambulance transporting him met with an accident on the Udupi–Manipal highway.
The mishap took place near MGM College, where the ambulance, which was on its way from Koteshwara to Manipal, reportedly lost control while navigating a road diversion. The vehicle rammed into a divider and barricades, leading to a sudden halt.
The impact of the collision prompted an emergency response. The injured patient was transferred immediately into a second ambulance and rushed to a nearby private medical facility in Manipal.
Despite the swift efforts, the patient succumbed to his condition shortly after arrival, leaving behind a trail of grief and raising concerns over emergency transport safety.
Locals have pointed out that the stretch of road where the accident happened is often confusing for drivers due to frequent diversions and poor signage. Authorities are being urged to review road safety measures along this critical route connecting Udupi to Manipal’s medical hub.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released by officials.
