Udupi – The Tulunadu Dharma Jagarana Vedike has demanded a public apology from Congress leader Prasad Raj Kanchan for his recent comments about the “chicken number”, a traditional practice tied to Tulunadu’s religious rituals.
Addressing a press conference, Udayakumar Hiriyadaka, the Vedike’s Udupi District Pramukh, alleged that Prasad Kanchan’s remarks, made during a Congress protest in Brahmavar, insulted the cultural and religious sentiments of the region. Kanchan reportedly criticized Udupi MLAs for raising the issue of the chicken number in the assembly and referred to it in a derogatory manner, comparing it to a gamble involving bloodshed.
“This statement is an insult to Tulunadu’s divine traditions and has deeply wounded Hindu religious sentiments,” said Hiriyadaka. He demanded that Kanchan immediately withdraw his remarks and issue an unconditional apology.
The Vedike warned that failure to do so may lead to widespread protests. The leaders urged politicians to respect the cultural sanctity of religious practices while speaking in public forums.
Also present at the press meet were Dharmendra MP (Mangaluru Pramukh), Arun Kunder (District Sanghatan Pramukh), and Sharath Kemmanu (Co-Sanghatan Pramukh).
