Udupi: Manipal police have arrested two persons in connection with the alleged illegal blasting of a rock using explosives on government land at Kukki Palke in Marne village.
The arrested accused have been identified as K Govind Raj (40), a resident of Thodikarmar in Inna village, Karkala, and Shekappa Chalavadi (28), a native of Vijayapura and currently residing at Kalyahalekatte.
Rock blasted without permission
According to police, a case was registered at Manipal police station after the accused allegedly used explosive materials to blast a rock illegally on government land at Kukki Palke on September 5.
The blasting was reportedly carried out without obtaining the required permission from the concerned department.
Following the registration of the case, Manipal police initiated an investigation to identify those involved in the incident and ascertain the circumstances under which the explosives were used on the government property.
Tractor and drilling machine seized
As part of the investigation, Manipal police station PSI Thimmesh B N arrested the two accused.
Police also seized a tractor, drilling machine and car allegedly used in connection with the incident.
The seizure of the equipment is part of the investigation into the alleged unauthorised rock-blasting activity. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the use of explosive materials and the involvement of the accused.
Accused produced before court
Following their arrest, K Govind Raj and Shekappa Chalavadi were produced before the court, police said.
Further investigation into the case is under way.
