Udupi: Udupi district police have arrested two men from Shikaripura in Shivamogga district in connection with a residential burglary reported under the Amasebailu police station limits.

The arrested have been identified as Rakesh H, 28, and Nandeesh M, 24, both residents of Shikaripura. Police apprehended the duo near Hulikal Ghat and recovered Rs 1,19,720 in cash believed to be linked to the theft. The accused were later produced before the court.

Rs 97,000 stolen from locked house

The burglary was reported on September 4 at a house in Jamboor Jeddu Nelligadde of Machattu village in Kundapur taluk.

According to the complaint, the occupants had left the house to attend work at a factory. Taking advantage of their absence, the thieves allegedly broke open the door lock and entered the house.

They reportedly searched the premises and stole Rs 97,000 in cash that had been kept inside a cupboard. Following the incident, a case was registered at Amasebailu police station.

Police launch swift investigation

Following the complaint, police launched an investigation to identify and trace those responsible for the burglary. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Kundapur subdivision DySP H D Kulkarni and the leadership of Kundapur Circle Inspector Santhosh Kaikani.

The investigation team comprised Amasebailu police station sub-inspector Bhimashankar Sinnur, investigating sub-inspector Sudharani T, crime squad assistant sub-inspector Chandrashekar Shetty and other police personnel.

Police personnel Raghavendra, Naveen Kumar, Sudhakar, Dinesh, Sachin Kulal, Manjunath, Jayarama Nayak and Chethan Kumar were also part of the team.
