In two separate cybercrime cases registered at Malpe police station, a woman and a senior citizen were duped of nearly ₹4.5 lakh through fake online investment and trading schemes.
In the first case, Kavita P (36), a resident of Badanidiyoor, was contacted by someone identifying as Divya Sharma via Telegram on July 15. Claiming to represent an NSE-linked firm, Divya sent promotional videos and lured Kavita into a task-based share bidding scheme. Believing the scheme was legitimate, Kavita transferred ₹3.9 lakh between July 17 and 21 across multiple transactions. A case has been filed under Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 112 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act.
In a second incident, Raghavendra Mattappa (73) of Kidiyoor, Malpe, fell victim to a similar scam. On June 5, a woman named Arohi Patil contacted him with claims of high returns through stock trading. She instructed him to install an app called 361HNW. The complainant transferred ₹50,000 in two installments. Later, the fraudster falsely claimed an IPO allotment worth ₹5.9 lakh and demanded ₹2 lakh more to “release” the amount. Suspecting fraud, the senior citizen reported the matter.
Police have registered cases in both incidents and are investigating the accused.
