Udupi: Two minors staying at the government boys’ observation home in Udupi have reportedly gone missing since Sunday afternoon, raising concerns about security at the facility.

The missing juveniles have been identified as Dileep (14), a student of Gyan Mandir Government School in Bengaluru, and Dhanaraj (13), who resides in Rajeshwari Nagar Garden, Kumaraswamy Layout, Bengaluru.

As per officials, the boys were admitted to the observation home via the reception centre on July 7. Their escape allegedly took place on July 13 around 1:40 PM, when they managed to slip away through a corridor exit door under yet unclear circumstances.

The escape was discovered by Pramod, a caretaker at the institution, who subsequently filed a formal complaint. The Udupi Women Police Station has taken up the investigation and registered a case to trace the absconding minors.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and tightening security measures at the observation home while launching a search operation in and around Udupi. Further details, including how the boys managed to access and exit through the corridor door, are currently under investigation.

The incident highlights the need for stronger surveillance and better safety protocols at such institutions that house juveniles under care or judicial observation.
