Udupi: Two minor boys, found begging near City Center Mall, were rescued in a coordinated operation by child welfare authorities in Udupi.
Rescue Operation
The operation was carried out by Children’s Helpline 1098 case workers Laxmikant and Soumya, with assistance from Railway Child Health Desk staff Vishal and Citizen Committee convener Nityanand Olkadu. Acting promptly on a tip-off, the team traced the boys and secured them from the streets.
Immediate Rehabilitation
On the verbal directions of the Child Welfare Committee President, the children were shifted to Doddanagudde Boys’ Home for temporary rehabilitation. Officials stated that further steps will include assessing the children’s background, locating their families, and providing necessary counselling.
Growing Concern Over Child Begging
The incident has once again drawn attention to the issue of child begging, which persists in many urban centres despite awareness drives and rescue efforts. Authorities have urged citizens to report such cases to the 1098 Childline to ensure immediate intervention.
