Udupi: A total of 163 students participated in a chess competition organised by the BJP Udupi district Minority Morcha at the Board High School auditorium in Udupi as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday celebrations.
Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, who participated in the programme, said that developing the intellectual and physical abilities of young people together is essential for building a strong nation.
Chess promotes intellectual development
Speaking after the competition was inaugurated, Yashpal Suvarna said that while most sporting activities focus on physical abilities, chess provides an opportunity for students to strengthen their intellectual skills.
He appreciated the efforts of Minority Morcha leaders Rudolph D’Souza, Dennis Mascarenhas and others in organising the event and said such initiatives could inspire and empower the younger generation.
Suvarna wished the participating students success and expressed hope that their talents would bring recognition to Udupi district.

Suvarna highlights Modi’s contribution
Suvarna said Narendra Modi had served as the chief minister of Gujarat for 13 years before becoming Prime Minister in 2014. He said Modi’s ideas, vision and work had brought India greater global attention and continued to inspire young people.
“Various programmes are being organised across the district to strengthen the Prime Minister’s initiatives and take his ideas to the younger generation,” Suvarna said.
He said the programmes being organised across the district were aimed at connecting young people with various initiatives and ideas associated with the Prime Minister.
BJP highlights social initiatives
Speaking on the occasion, Kuthyar Naveen Shetty said the Bharatiya Janata Party was not limited to electoral activities and was also involved in various social and service-oriented initiatives.
He said the Minority Morcha had organised the chess competition to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service.
Shetty welcomed programmes that encourage the intellectual development of students and urged the participants to make the most of the opportunity.
163 students participate
The chess competition saw enthusiastic participation from 163 students. The organisers said the programme was intended to promote intellectual ability and encourage greater interest in sports among students.
District BJP Minority Morcha president Rudolph D’Souza, Prabhakar Poojary, Udupi city Minority Morcha president Dennis Mascarenhas, district general secretary Sheikh Asif, district vice-president Michael D’Souza, secretary Anita Belinda D’Souza, Anil Ambalpady, treasurer Clin Monis and Saleem Ambagilu were among those present.
