Udupi — The BJP and District OBC Morcha staged a strong protest outside the District Commissioner’s office in Manipal today, condemning the state Congress government’s delay in approving the ‘Single Design Map’ (9/11), which they say is causing significant hardship to the public in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
Led by MLA Yash Pal Suvarna, MLC Pratap Simha Nayak, and other senior BJP leaders, the protest accused the government of following a “deliberate delaying policy”. Protesters demanded the immediate resumption of permissions for single design maps, especially for plots up to 25 cents, as allowed earlier.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Yash Pal Suvarna said, “Issues like 9/11, red stone, and sand are creating chaos in coastal districts. But the Congress government is turning a blind eye. If this continues, the BJP will act as the eyes and ears of the people.” He criticised recent protests by Congress leaders at gram panchayats as hypocritical, calling on them to abandon “politics of hatred” and work collaboratively for public welfare.
MLC Pratap Simha Nayak echoed the sentiment, alleging that the current problems are “manufactured crises” created by the Congress government. He claimed there is a “hidden conspiracy” behind the disruption of public services related to land use and construction.
The protest follows earlier BJP demonstrations in front of 399 gram panchayats in the region. Leaders present included MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi, District BJP President Naveen Shetty Kuthyaru, Ratnakar Hegde Mattaru, Udayakumar Shetty, and Prabhakar Poojary.
