Udupi: The district administration and police have decided to conduct comprehensive security checks at court premises every morning before the commencement of court proceedings following a series of fake bomb threat emails targeting courts. The move aims to ensure that any suspicious objects are detected and cleared in advance, allowing court proceedings to continue without disruption even if fresh threat emails are received.
The decision comes after the Udupi district court received yet another hoax bomb threat via email on June 30, marking the fourth such incident involving the court in recent weeks.
Fourth hoax bomb threat received
According to officials, the latest email was received at 8.56 am from an email ID identified as davidiya.durgastalinunderworld.dog.
The message, titled ‘Operation Twin Blasts’, claimed that six hydrogen cyanide chemical bombs had been planted in courts across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and would explode simultaneously. It also urged the immediate evacuation of judges from the court premises.
However, court staff noticed the email only at around 1 pm and immediately alerted the police.
Police conduct thorough search
Soon after receiving the information, police personnel, accompanied by the bomb disposal squad and dog squad, carried out an extensive search of the district court premises and surrounding areas.
After a detailed inspection, officials confirmed that no suspicious objects or explosives were found and declared the threat to be a hoax.
Court proceedings continued without interruption after the search, with judges, advocates and litigants remaining calm throughout the operation.
Daily security checks before court proceedings
Following discussions with the Principal District and Sessions Judge (PDJ), the district administration and police have introduced preventive measures to strengthen security at the court complex.
Officials said court premises will now be inspected every morning before proceedings begin to ensure there are no suspicious materials or security concerns.
The objective is to complete all necessary security checks in advance so that court work can continue smoothly even if similar anonymous threat emails are received in the future.
Additional security measures planned
Authorities have also decided to enhance security arrangements at the court complex by deploying additional security personnel, subject to the availability of manpower.
Temporary door-frame metal detectors are also expected to be installed to strengthen access control and improve security screening for visitors entering the court premises.
These measures are intended to reassure judges, advocates, court staff and litigants while ensuring that judicial proceedings are not disrupted by repeated hoax threats.
Investigation into fake emails continues
Police have launched efforts to trace the source of the fake emails and identify those responsible for creating panic through repeated bomb threats.
Officials said the investigation is being carried out in coordination with police units in other districts and states, as similar threats have been reported elsewhere. Central agencies are also assisting in tracking the origin of the emails and identifying those behind the campaign.
Authorities have reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible for sending false bomb threats that disrupt public institutions and consume valuable emergency resources.
