UDUPI: Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are stepping up their academic preparations for the 2027 Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations, aiming to retain their positions among Karnataka’s top-performing districts.

The two coastal districts have consistently recorded strong SSLC results, prompting education officials and schools to continue strengthening classroom teaching, student monitoring and examination preparation. Their focus is on sustaining high pass percentages while helping students who need additional academic support.

Coastal districts aim to maintain strong results

The 2026 SSLC results highlighted the continued academic performance of coastal Karnataka. Dakshina Kannada secured the first position in the state with a pass percentage of 98.4%, while Udupi followed with 98.1%. Uttara Kannada ranked third with 98%.

The results reflected improvements across the three districts. Dakshina Kannada’s pass percentage rose from 94.4% in 2025 to 98.4% in 2026, while Udupi improved from 93.9% to 98.1%. Uttara Kannada’s pass percentage increased from 90% to 98%.

The latest results have increased the emphasis on maintaining consistent academic performance in the upcoming examination cycle.

Focus on student performance and regular monitoring

Schools and education officials are working to ensure that students receive structured academic support well before the board examinations. Regular monitoring of classroom progress, revision activities and examination-oriented practice are important elements of preparations for SSLC.

Identifying students who struggle with particular subjects can help teachers provide additional guidance and address learning gaps. Such support is also important for reducing the number of students who fail, even in districts with high overall pass percentages.

Maintaining strong results requires attention not only to high-performing students but also to those who need more time and assistance to understand the syllabus.

Udupi’s approach to academic improvement

Udupi’s performance in the 2026 examinations was supported by regular school visits, student motivation and coordinated academic planning, according to earlier reporting on the district’s results.

Educational teams used resources such as subject-wise practice questions, preparatory examination reviews and digital learning material. Some schools also conducted additional classes to help students prepare for the examinations.

These approaches underline the importance of consistent preparation throughout the academic year rather than relying solely on last-minute revision.

Dakshina Kannada seeks to sustain its leading position

Dakshina Kannada’s rise to the top of the state rankings in 2026 was accompanied by efforts to improve outcomes for students who were struggling academically.

Targeted support for slow learners and the use of simplified learning material helped the district reduce the number of students who did not pass. Of the 27,207 students who appeared for the examination in 2026, 26,771 passed.

The experience highlights the role of early intervention, teacher involvement and regular assessment in improving overall examination performance.

Sustaining results will be the key challenge

As preparations for SSLC 2027 continue, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada will need to maintain consistent teaching standards while ensuring that students across different schools receive the support they require.

Regular academic reviews, practice examinations and focused attention on weaker subjects can help schools identify problems early and improve readiness for the board examinations.

The challenge for both districts will be to sustain their strong results while ensuring that academic improvement reaches students at every performance level.
