Udupi: Udupi Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. has decided to write to the Public Works Department seeking toll concessions for residents living near the Hejamadi toll plaza. The proposal aims to ease the burden on locals who regularly cross the toll gate.
Locals seek relief from repeated toll payments
Residents living around Hejamadi reportedly have to cross the toll plaza several times a day for work, education and other routine activities. Paying the toll on every trip has caused considerable inconvenience and financial pressure.
The district administration has therefore proposed either an exemption for eligible local vehicles or a monthly pass system for registered vehicles operating within a specified radius.
Proposal sent to PWD
The Deputy Commissioner will recommend extending to Hejamadi the type of toll relief already available to residents near the Sasthan and Shiroor toll plazas.
The proposal is expected to provide a more convenient arrangement for people whose daily travel necessarily involves crossing the toll plaza.
Service roads also receive attention
The Deputy Commissioner has also directed National Highway authorities and contractors to expedite construction of service roads on stretches of NH 66 where the required permissions have already been granted.
The measures are aimed at improving local connectivity and reducing difficulties faced by residents living alongside the highway.
The Hejamadi toll plaza is part of the NH 66 network in Karnataka, with local toll arrangements having been a subject of public concern in the past.
