The Udupi district administration has commenced repairs on the Hanja-Kaarimane-Edmale road in the naxal-prone Hebri region, following a critical photo report. The report highlighted the road’s dire condition, which had deteriorated into a muddy quagmire due to ten days of relentless rain.
Located in the Madamakki gram panchayat area, often referred to as the Cherrapunji of Karnataka, this 2.5 km mud road connects Hanja, Kaarimane, and Edmale. The road’s condition had severely impacted the 150 families living in the area, making it difficult for students to attend school and daily wage workers to reach their workplaces.
Daijiworld’s report prompted immediate action from local representatives. The coverage reached MLC and KPCC working president Manjunath Bhandary, who escalated the issue to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As a result, repair work began on Thursday, focusing on asphalting the road to restore accessibility and alleviate the hardships faced by residents.
The repair efforts are expected to provide significant relief to the affected families, improving travel conditions and supporting daily activities in this remote, forested region.
