The Udupi district administration has launched efforts to safeguard government land by clearing encroachments and securing vulnerable areas. According to District Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari, the initiative aims to preserve government-owned land across the district. Hundreds of acres of encroached government land have been identified, and fencing will be constructed to protect these areas.
The exact extent of the encroached land has been verified using Land Beat data, and eviction work is underway in various taluks, including Udupi, Kundapur, Karkala, Kapu, Brahmavar, and Hebbri. A total of ₹2 crore has been allocated to the district for fencing and related expenses.
Earlier, the government had instructed gram panchayat officials to upload details of government land in their respective areas through an app. The collected data will assist in the eviction process. The district administration has prepared a list of government lands to be secured and has instructed the concerned officials to take action.
“Preparations are underway to secure government land and construct fencing. We have prepared a list and instructed officials to take necessary action,” said Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari. The identified lands include properties in Kundapur, Karkala, Nitte, Udupi, and other areas, totalling over 20 acres.
The district administration has assured that legitimate farmers and residents will not be affected during the eviction process. Measures have been taken to avoid any inconvenience to the public, and necessary instructions have been given to tahsildars and revenue department officials.
