Heavy rains in Udupi have led to significant flooding, causing rivers and riverbanks to overflow and inundate fields and gardens. As the floodwaters begin to recede, the resulting issues are becoming more evident.

The Sita River, which flows through Brahmavar taluk, completely submerged the barrage in Neelavara village. When the floodwaters subsided, they left behind a considerable amount of debris, including large tree trunks, branches, and plastic waste. This accumulation blocked the water flow at the barrage, exacerbating the problems caused by the flooding.

To address the situation, the Neelavara village panchayat has initiated a cleanup of the barrage. The minor irrigation department is actively removing the debris to restore normal water flow from Neelavara towards Matapadi village. However, this issue is not confined to Neelavara alone. Several other panchayats across the district are experiencing similar challenges, with flood-related debris obstructing waterways and causing disruptions.

The ongoing cleanup efforts are crucial for managing the aftermath of the flooding and preventing further issues. The situation highlights the widespread impact of the heavy rains on local infrastructure and the need for effective measures to address and mitigate flood-related damage.
