Udupi: The district currently has 10,00,754 registered voters as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls progresses, with 99.02 per cent of the notices generated under the exercise already distributed, according to the Udupi district administration.

The latest data released by the administration on September 24 showed that the district has 4,84,236 male voters, 5,16,509 female voters and nine third-gender voters. There are 1,244 polling stations across Udupi district.

The electoral-roll revision is being carried out as part of the SIR-2026 exercise following directions from the Chief Electoral Officer. The administration has also received more than 44,000 applications relating to voter enrolment, deletion and corrections.

Nearly 97,000 SIR notices generated

According to the district administration, a total of 97,673 notices have been generated as part of the SIR exercise.

Of these, 96,716 notices had been distributed as of September 24, accounting for 99.02 per cent of the total. Another 959 notices were yet to be delivered.

The administration said inquiries relating to 58,913 distributed notices had already been completed, while inquiries concerning 37,803 notices remained pending.

The deadline for completing the inquiries has been fixed as October 12. The administration has also set October 22 as the last date for disposal of claims and objections.

The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 27.

Over 44,000 applications received

The SIR exercise has also resulted in a significant number of applications under different forms prescribed for electoral-roll-related services.

The Udupi district administration has received 44,841 applications under Forms 6, 6A, 7 and 8.

Of these, 12,200 applications were submitted through Form 6 for inclusion of new voters in the electoral roll.

Another 340 applications were received through Form 6A from overseas Indian voters seeking enrolment-related services.

Form 7 applications, which are used for objections or deletion of names from the electoral roll, accounted for 2,006 applications.

The largest number came under Form 8, with 37,454 applications. These relate to corrections in electoral-roll details, replacement of Electoral Photo Identity Cards and identification of persons with disabilities.

Young voters can apply for inclusion

The administration has also highlighted the opportunity for young citizens who are becoming eligible to register as voters.

Those who turn 18 on October 1, 2026, are eligible to apply for inclusion in the electoral roll.

Applications can be submitted online through the Election Commission’s voter services portal or through the ECINet mobile application. Applicants are required to submit self-attested documents serving as proof of age and address.

Those who prefer the offline process can submit the prescribed Form 6 and declaration, along with the required documents, to the concerned Booth Level Officer or at the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer’s office.

Special arrangements for senior citizens and PwDs

The district administration has made special arrangements for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, people suffering from illness and overseas Indian voters.

Under the arrangements, an adult member of the family can approach the concerned ERO or AERO office on behalf of an eligible person and submit the required documents and information for disposal of the notice.

The administration has also advised voters to check their details carefully, particularly because the part number or serial number of some voters may have changed following the reorganisation of polling stations.

Voters who cannot locate their names using their old part number have been advised to search using their EPIC number through the Election Commission’s voter services portal or the ECINet mobile application.

Voters advised to verify electoral details

The ongoing SIR exercise is intended to update and verify the electoral roll before publication of the final list.

With inquiries still pending on 37,803 distributed notices, the coming weeks will be important for voters whose details require verification or clarification.

The administration has urged eligible voters to use the available online and offline mechanisms to check their names and submit applications or supporting documents wherever necessary.

The October 12 deadline applies to completion of inquiries, while claims and objections can be disposed of until October 22. The final electoral roll is expected to be published on October 27.

Final roll scheduled for October 27

The latest figures indicate that the SIR process in Udupi district has reached an advanced stage, with more than 99 per cent of the notices already distributed.

The administration will now focus on completing the remaining inquiries, processing applications and resolving claims and objections before the final electoral roll is published.

With Udupi having more than 10 lakh registered voters and 1,244 polling stations, the revision exercise is significant for ensuring that the electoral database reflects eligible voters and updated details.

The district administration has provided multiple channels for citizens to check their records, apply for inclusion and seek corrections ahead of the October 27 final-roll publication.
