Udupi: Anil Prashanth Kundar has approached Udupi district superintendent of police Hariram Shankar seeking assistance following the alleged murder of his brother, Alwyn Prakash Kundar, a native of Kundapur, in Sharjah.
Prashanth submitted a memorandum to the SP, seeking help in obtaining information about the case and the whereabouts of Prakash’s wife and son, who are reportedly missing.
Family alerted after Prakash stopped answering calls
Recounting the sequence of events, Prashanth said he tried to contact Prakash on July 20, but his brother did not answer the call.
Prakash later sent him a message, which Prashanth said was unusual as his brother normally did not communicate through text messages.
When Prashanth called again, the calls went unanswered, increasing the family’s concern.
Alwyn Prakash had reportedly been working at Sharjah airport for the past 14 years.
As the family was unable to establish contact with him, they approached his employer’s human resources department to find out about his whereabouts.
According to Prashanth, the company’s HR department initially informed the family that Prakash had travelled to India.
However, the family told the company that he had not returned to India. Following this, the company checked his passport details and reportedly confirmed that he was still in Sharjah.
A missing person complaint was subsequently lodged in Sharjah.
Body reportedly found in car
According to Prashanth, the investigation in Sharjah later led to the discovery of a body inside a car travelling on a route towards Oman.
He said the body had allegedly been chopped into nine pieces and placed inside two bags.
The body was subsequently identified as that of Alwyn Prakash, he said.
Prashanth also said that the family has not been able to ascertain the whereabouts of Prakash’s wife and son.
The family has now sought assistance from authorities in India to obtain further information about the investigation being conducted in Sharjah.
Udupi police to coordinate with embassy
District SP Hariram Shankar said Prakash’s brother had approached him seeking assistance in connection with the alleged murder in Sharjah.
The SP said the district police could not initiate direct legal action in the matter unless a Red Corner Notice or an Interpol notice was issued against the suspected accused.
However, he said the police would try to assist the bereaved family by coordinating with the Indian embassy in Dubai.
The district police will also attempt to gather further information about the case through Interpol, the SP said.
The circumstances surrounding Prakash’s death and the reported disappearance of his wife and son are expected to be investigated by the authorities in Sharjah.
