Udupi: Cloudy skies and sunshine alternated across the district on Saturday, while a brief spell of dew overnight brought a slight chill to some areas. The cooler conditions did not last long, as temperatures rose sharply by afternoon, leaving residents to cope with intense heat and humid weather.
Dew gives way to afternoon heat
Several parts of the district witnessed dew during the night and early Saturday morning. The early hours remained relatively pleasant, with cloudy conditions providing some relief.
However, the weather changed considerably as the day progressed. Sunshine became more prominent and temperatures climbed by the afternoon, resulting in hot and uncomfortable conditions across many areas.
The combination of heat and humidity made the afternoon particularly sultry, despite the presence of clouds at intervals.
Dakshina Kannada records weaker monsoon activity
The monsoon has also weakened in neighbouring Dakshina Kannada in recent days. The reduction in rainfall activity has resulted in the region receiving less rainfall than normally expected during this period.
On Saturday, large parts of the coastal region experienced a predominantly dry spell. The day began with a mixture of sunshine and clouds, while only isolated locations reported light rainfall.
The subdued monsoon activity has brought a noticeable change from the wetter conditions generally associated with the coastal districts during the monsoon season.
Moderate rain likely over the next two days
Despite the recent decline in rainfall, weather conditions could change over the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate rainfall is possible in some parts of the coastal region during the next two days.
The forecast suggests that rainfall may remain uneven, with some locations receiving showers while other areas could continue to experience partly cloudy or sunny conditions.
Residents in the coastal districts are advised to remain alert to local weather updates, particularly as rainfall activity can vary considerably over short distances.
The possibility of moderate showers could provide temporary relief from the recent heat, although a widespread revival of monsoon activity will depend on the development of favourable weather conditions across the region.
