Udupi: Renowned singer and Akashvani top-grade artiste Vidhushi Sangeetha Balachandra has created a world record by completing a continuous 25-hour solo recital of Dasarapadas in Udupi, marking a memorable achievement in Karnataka’s devotional music tradition.
The marathon, titled ‘Panchavimshati’, began at 6.30 am on August 23 at the Sri Puttige Narasimha Auditorium, Geetha Mandira, near Sri Krishna Matha, and concluded at around 7.40 am on August 24.
250 Dasarapadas sung continuously
As part of the record-setting performance, Sangeetha Balachandra rendered 250 Dasarapadas over approximately 1,500 minutes. The programme featured specially prepared musical arrangements and continuous live accompaniment from musicians.
The performance was organised to mark 25 years of her journey in the music field. Earlier, the organisers had announced that the marathon was aimed at securing a place in the Golden Book of World Records.
The achievement has now been recognised, with reports confirming that the singer successfully completed the challenge and entered the Golden Book of World Records.
Devotional music meets remarkable endurance
The recital brought together Udupi’s spiritual atmosphere and the rich tradition of Haridasa devotional music. The programme was held with the blessings of Sri Puthige Matha and attracted attention from devotees, music lovers and cultural enthusiasts.
According to reports, the marathon concluded with the Dasara composition ‘Krishna Ena Barade’, which Sangeetha dedicated to Sri Krishna and Mukhyaprana at Udupi.
The achievement adds another notable chapter to Udupi’s cultural heritage while highlighting the enduring appeal of Dasarapadas and the dedication of artistes working to preserve Karnataka’s devotional musical traditions.
