Udupi: Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar has issued a stern advisory to the public, particularly young individuals, warning against spreading provocative or communal content on social media platforms.

In an official press release, SP Shankar highlighted the increasing trend of inflammatory posts circulating online. “Several individuals have recently shared content promoting communal discord. We are closely monitoring this activity. Within the last 72 hours, two FIRs have been filed, and the individuals involved have been remanded to judicial custody,” he revealed.

He emphasized that every post, message, or forwarded content is under surveillance by dedicated cyber monitoring teams. “Don’t try to act like digital crusaders. Each post is being tracked. If anything incites division or unrest, strict legal action will be taken,” he cautioned.

SP Shankar appealed to the public to act responsibly online and think twice before engaging with provocative material. “We are keeping a watch on multiple groups and users statewide. Even forwarding such content can bring you under scrutiny,” he said.

He further warned of the long-term impact of being booked under such cases. “Having a police record can damage your career prospects—whether in the private sector, government jobs, or even in the armed forces and police services. Once your name enters the criminal system, clearing your record is not easy,” he added.

The Udupi police have adopted a zero-tolerance approach in response to recent online incidents and have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining harmony in the region.
