Udupi: On the auspicious occasion of Soura Ugadi, marking the beginning of the Vishwavasu Samvatsara, Paryaya Pontiff Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swami celebrated a significant milestone by donating a golden kavacha (armour) to the Sarvajna Peetha, the sacred spiritual throne of Udupi.
This special contribution was made through Sri Vishwapriya Thirtha Swami of the Adamaru Mutt, in honour of the 50th anniversary of Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swami’s initiation into sanyasa ashrama. The ceremony also witnessed the graceful presence of Sri Vidyesha Thirtha Swami, head of Bhandarkeri Mutt, who participated at the request of the Paryaya seer and extended his divine blessings.
The Sarvajna Peetha, venerated as the seat of Sri Krishna, Mukhyaprana, and Madhvacharya, is the abode of the Sarvamoola granthas—foundational scriptures of the Madhva tradition. These holy texts represent timeless spiritual knowledge and are held in high esteem by followers and scholars alike.
Previously adorned with a silver covering, the sacred seat now gleams with a golden shield, symbolizing a renewed spiritual brilliance. Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swami was initiated into sanyasa in 1974 at the age of 12 by his guru Sri Sujnanendra Thirtha. In 1976, he made history by becoming the youngest pontiff to ascend the Paryaya Peetha at just 14 years old, a feat unmatched in 800 years of Ashta Mutt tradition.
