Udupi: The police have arrested three individuals for allegedly cheating a man by falsely promising him a medical seat to pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in the UK.
The accused, identified as Suman (24) of Shivamogga, Mohammad Mahaz (23), and Suhan Khan (22), both from Moodbidri, were apprehended after Santosh E, a graduate in general medicine, filed a complaint. Police seized cash, a car, and other valuables worth ₹9.56 lakh from the suspects.
According to Santosh’s complaint, he had met one of the accused, Aftab, in Dubai, who assured him an MPH seat for ₹18 lakh and demanded an advance of ₹8.5 lakh. Later, Santosh transferred the amount to Suman in Udupi. When the accused became unreachable, Santosh realized he had been defrauded and reported the incident to the police.
The investigation is ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the case.
