Udupi: In a vibrant celebration of National Handloom Day 2025, a unique “Traditional Handloom Saree Beauty Contest” was held at the Rajangana Hall of Sri Krishna Mutt, Udupi. The event was jointly organized by the Udupi District BJP Mahila Morcha, BJP Weavers’ Cell, and the Padmashali Weavers’ Foundation.
The highlight of the event was the enthusiastic participation of women adorned in elegant handloom sarees, showcasing the timeless grace of traditional Indian textiles.
Speaking on the occasion, Paryaya Puttige Mutt Seer Sri Sugunendra Theertha Sripad emphasized the importance of attire in commanding respect. “Dignified clothing uplifts one’s image, and weavers play a key role in this. To preserve our culture, the handloom sector must be revived and nurtured,” he stated, urging collective efforts to support weaver communities.
Shilpa Suvarna, State General Secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha, Ashok Shettigar, Convener of Udupi BJP Weavers’ Cell, and Dillesh Shetty were present on the dais, lending support to the initiative.
Sandhya Ramesh, President of Udupi BJP Mahila Morcha, opened the program with a warm welcome and introductory remarks. Nalini Pradeep effectively compered the event, while Avinash Shettigar Marpalli, Co-Convenor of the Weavers’ Cell, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event not only honored the artistry of weavers but also aimed to raise awareness about preserving India’s handloom heritage.
