Udupi: A 27-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances at Shedimane in Udupi taluk on September 29, following which her mother has approached the Amasebailu police expressing suspicion over her daughter’s death.
The deceased has been identified as Malini. She was residing at Shedimane with her husband Santhosh, their children Manvi, Sanvita and Manvita, and her mother Jalaja Poojari.
Mother receives information about children being unwell
According to the complaint filed by Jalaja Poojari, she was working at a cashew factory when she received information that the children at home were unwell.
She reached home at around 4 pm and allegedly found Malini lying outside the room. The complaint states that Malini had been pulled out through the doorway, with one of her legs resting on the door frame.
Jalaja was reportedly informed that Malini had locked the room from inside between 1.45 pm and 2.30 pm and had allegedly attempted suicide.
Woman allegedly rescued from room
According to the complaint, Santhosh’s friend Premalatha, who had arrived at the house around that time, allegedly noticed the situation.
It is alleged that Premalatha climbed onto the roof, removed three roof tiles and entered the room. She reportedly brought Malini down from the noose and then pulled her outside in an attempt to save her.
The circumstances surrounding what happened inside the room and the sequence of events before Malini was found outside are now the subject of the mother’s complaint.
Mother raises suspicion over death
Jalaja Poojari stated in her complaint that Malini had been married to Santhosh for around eight years and that the couple had experienced differences. Despite the differences, they continued to live together.
The mother has expressed suspicion over her daughter’s death, particularly in relation to the circumstances in which Malini was found and the presence of Premalatha at the house around the time of the incident.
She has urged the Amasebailu police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Malini’s death.
The police are expected to examine the sequence of events, statements of those present and other relevant evidence as part of the investigation.
