Udupi: City police have arrested a woman who had allegedly been absconding and failing to appear before the court for nearly 17 years in connection with a case registered in 2009.
The arrested woman has been identified as Vaneeshri, also known as Renuka, a resident of Begur Road in Davanagere.
According to police, she had remained absconding for nearly 17 years and had not appeared before the court during this period. After tracing and arresting her, Udupi City Police produced her before the court on Friday, August 22.
Accused in 2009 case
Police said Vaneeshri alias Renuka was an accused in a case registered in 2009. She had allegedly remained unavailable to the investigating authorities and the court for several years.
Her arrest brings an end to the prolonged search for the accused, who had been absconding for almost 17 years.
Following her arrest, the police completed the necessary legal procedures and produced her before the court.
Remanded to judicial custody
After being produced before the court, the woman was remanded to judicial custody. She was subsequently lodged in the Mangaluru District Prison.
