A 21-year-old woman has reported being raped by a man she met on Instagram, identified as Altaf (34). The incident occurred on Friday within the Karkala Town Police Station jurisdiction. According to Udupi SP Dr. Arun K, the victim had known Altaf for three months through Instagram. Altaf invited her to meet him, but upon arrival, she was abducted and forcibly taken to another location. At this site, two of Altaf’s associates handed him a beer bottle, which he allegedly spiked with an unknown substance before raping her.
The victim, who has been admitted to a private hospital in Manipal, reported the crime to the authorities. A case has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 138 (Abduction), Section 64 (Rape), and Section 3(5). Altaf has been arrested, and the vehicle used in the crime has been seized. Additionally, Savera (Xavier) Richard Quadras, who is alleged to have provided the beer, has also been taken into custody, and his vehicle has been confiscated.
Further investigations are ongoing as legal proceedings continue against the accused.
