Udupi: A 20-year-old woman from Gujarat who was found wandering at night in Kuntal Nagar has been rescued with the assistance of social workers and admitted to a hospital for care.
Woman shifted to hospital
The woman, identified as Shyamili, is a graduate in hotel management. She was initially taken to the Sakhi Centre before being shifted to Baliga Hospital.
According to those involved in the rescue, Shyamili had reportedly been facing family disputes and abuse and subsequently developed mental health issues.
She reportedly created a disturbance at the Sakhi Centre and could not be brought under control. Social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady subsequently helped admit her to Baliga Hospital late at night.
Woman seeks reunion with child
Shyamili reportedly told those assisting her that she has a six-month-old child. She appealed to be allowed to live with her child and a young man she said she loved, while stating that she is not a minor.
Meanwhile, police and Sakhi Centre staff are working to trace her relatives in Gujarat and establish contact with her family.
Social workers assist rescue
Social worker Shakeela from Katpady, along with Uday, Arun and Lingappa Gowda of Kaup police station, assisted in the rescue and subsequent efforts to ensure the woman received care.
Authorities and social workers are continuing efforts to establish her family connections and determine the appropriate support required for her.
