Udupi: A potentially tragic incident was averted near Udupi after a young man attempting to jump off a moving train was rescued in the nick of time by alert railway staff.

The incident occurred when a train travelling from Kerala to Mumbai was approaching Innanje railway station. The youth, reportedly travelling without a valid ticket, attempted to jump out of the moving train through an open door.

Swift action by railway staff

According to reports, ticket examiner Babu noticed the youth’s suspicious behaviour and acted promptly. As the young man moved towards the door and attempted to jump, Babu intervened and managed to pull him back to safety.

The timely response prevented what could have been a fatal accident.

Other railway personnel, including ticket checker Sunil, Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff Raviprakash, and Jeena Pinto, assisted in handling the situation and ensuring the youth’s safety.

Handed over to Railway Protection Force

Following the rescue, the youth was taken into custody and handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Indrali for further action.

Authorities reported that the individual appeared to be mentally unstable, prompting them to prioritise his safety and medical care.

Medical care arranged

With the help of social worker Nityananda Volakadu, the railway police arranged for the youth to be admitted to the district hospital in Ajjarkad for evaluation and treatment.

During the medical process, the youth identified himself only as Sahad (25), a native of Kozhikode.

Authorities are currently attempting to trace his family members and have urged them to contact the Udupi District Hospital for further information.
