Concerns have arisen regarding the collection of parking fees at Bhatkal’s new hi-tech bus stand, indicating possible embezzlement. Despite the absence of a display board detailing the contractor’s information and fee rates as required by government regulations, receipts are issued under “NWKRTC.” Officials collecting fees, dressed in KSRTC uniforms, have been evasive when questioned, stating only that a tender has been awarded for fee collection.

Under government rules, public parking areas must prominently display the contractor’s details and fee structure. Additionally, basic amenities such as marked boundaries, cleanliness, security provisions, and potentially CCTV surveillance should be provided, which are reportedly lacking at this location.

The discrepancy between the receipt name and uniform attire raises suspicions of collusion between personnel at the bus stand and authorities. Calls have been made for higher authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter to ensure transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
