Karwar: Incessant rain has taken a toll on primary schools in Mundagoda, with over 30 schools reporting cracks in their classrooms. The situation has prompted teachers to shift classes to alternate rooms as a precautionary measure.
The rains have caused significant damage, affecting compound walls and stock rooms as well. In some schools, pre-existing cracks have widened, posing a risk to students. Parents have expressed concerns about the poor workmanship evident in some schools, where rooms built just ten years ago are already leaking.
To ensure student safety, teachers have been advised not to conduct classes in damaged rooms. Instead, they should use alternate rooms or arrangements. Authorities have instructed teachers to monitor walls for signs of further dilapidation, especially during heavy rainfall.
According to Panchayat Raj Department Engineer Pradeepa Bhatta, 38 junior and senior primary schools in the taluk have reported damage to classrooms, compound walls, and utility rooms. While there have been no incidents of room collapses, cracks have appeared in some walls. Authorities plan to carry out repair work after the rains, pending fund availability.
