In an era where technology plays a pivotal role in law enforcement, the Yellapur police have showcased the power of social media in solving a long-standing case. The case involved Antony, an accused who had evaded capture for nearly a decade. Despite extensive efforts, the police department had been unable to trace him for 8 to 10 years.
The breakthrough came in April when a police official shared a post on the Janasnehi Beat Police WhatsApp group, seeking information about Antony. This approach yielded valuable leads, eventually pointing the police to Carmona village in Goa.
Acting swiftly on the lead, the Yellapur police team traveled to Carmona and located Antony’s residence. Upon arrival, they were informed by Antony’s wife and son that he had passed away on April 1, 2022. On the same day, Antony had stolen a sugarcane crusher, but tragically met with an accident and died shortly after. The family provided Antony’s death certificate, which the police then submitted to the court, officially closing the case.
This successful resolution was met with widespread praise. The Yellapur police credited the local community members who responded to the WhatsApp group post, highlighting their critical role in providing the information that led to the breakthrough. The case underscores the importance of community engagement and the innovative use of technology in modern policing.
