Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: In a fierce encounter early Thursday morning, two Naxalites and a jawan from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Chhattisgarh Police lost their lives in the dense forests of Bijapur district.

The exchange of fire erupted around 7 AM near the Bijapur-Dantewada district border, specifically in the Gangaloor police station limits. Security personnel, part of a joint anti-Naxalite operation, were combing the area when the confrontation broke out, a senior police officer confirmed.

Post-encounter, the bodies of two Naxalites were recovered from the scene, along with a cache of firearms and explosives. Sadly, a DRG jawan also succumbed to injuries sustained during the fierce firefight.

The situation on the ground remains tense, with search and combing operations still underway to secure the region and flush out any remaining insurgents.

This latest encounter highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces operating in the Maoist-affected belts of Chhattisgarh, where such operations are frequent and often perilous.
