VIJAYAPURA: In a tragic incident, three people drowned in a rainwater-filled pit in Hadalageri village, Muddebihal taluk, Vijayapura district. The victims have been identified as Nilamma Hulagappa Killarhatti (17), Muttappa Mahalingappa Killarhatti (24), and Shivu Shivappa Yalawar (24). All three bodies have been recovered by local authorities.

The incident occurred when Nilamma entered the pit to fetch drinking water for the animals. Unbeknownst to her, the pit was deceptively deep due to recent heavy rainfall, and she accidentally slipped and fell into the water. In a desperate attempt to save her, Muttappa and Shivu rushed to her aid. Unfortunately, both men also lost their lives in the rescue attempt.

Local officials were alerted to the incident, and a recovery operation was promptly initiated. Despite their swift response, the efforts to save the victims were in vain. The tragic deaths have cast a pall of sorrow over the Hadalageri village, as the community mourns the loss of three of its members.

Authorities have issued warnings to residents to exercise caution around rain-filled pits and other water bodies, especially during the monsoon season. This incident highlights the dangers posed by seemingly innocuous water-filled pits and the importance of community awareness and safety measures.

The village of Hadalageri is now rallying together to support the grieving families during this difficult time. Local leaders have called for better safety precautions and the marking of dangerous areas to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
