Dandeli: A leisure trip to Dandeli turned into a nightmare for a young man from Vijayapura after a zipline cable allegedly snapped mid-ride at a private resort, leaving him with severe injuries.
The incident occurred on July 3 but came to light only recently.
The injured has been identified as Kuber Surpur, a resident of Vijayapura district, who had travelled to Dandeli with his brother, Prashant, for a short vacation.
According to his family, Kuber was midway through the zipline ride when the safety lock mechanism allegedly failed, causing him to fall from a height of around 30 to 40 feet. The incident was reportedly recorded on a mobile phone by his brother.
Multiple fractures, surgeries underway
The fall left Kuber with multiple fractures in both his arms and legs, besides nerve damage.
He was initially taken to the Government Hospital in Dandeli for first aid before being shifted to a private hospital in Vijayapura. He was later referred to a hospital in Miraj, Maharashtra, where he is undergoing advanced treatment.
Doctors have already performed one surgery and reportedly informed the family that further surgical procedures on his arms and legs will be required.
Family alleges negligence
Kuber’s family has accused the resort management of negligence, alleging that adequate safety measures were not in place during the zipline activity.
They also claimed that although the resort initially assured them it would bear the medical expenses, it has failed to honour that commitment.
Responding to the allegations, the resort manager acknowledged that the accident had taken place but denied any negligence by the staff. He described it as an unforeseen incident and said he would visit Vijayapura to meet the family and discuss the matter.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over safety standards at adventure tourism destinations and the need for strict compliance with safety protocols.
