One person died and seven others were injured in a shooting outside a nightclub in Louisville, Kentucky, as reported by CNN, citing local police.
Emergency responders discovered two gunshot victims upon arriving at H20 Lounge at 12:47 am local time, according to a statement from the Louisville Police Metro Department. Tragically, one of the victims—a man—succumbed to his injuries.
The second victim was transported to the hospital with critical, life-threatening wounds. Additionally, six other adult victims sought medical attention at nearby hospitals following the shooting, all suffering from gunshot wounds, though these injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, according to Aaron Ellis, a public information officer with the police department.
Authorities have not disclosed details about the shooter(s) or the motive behind the incident. The police emphasized that the relationships among the victims, if any, are currently unknown and that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Separately, in Fordyce, Arkansas, three people were killed and ten others injured in a shooting at a grocery store on Friday, according to CNN, citing authorities. The Arkansas State Police reported the incident at Mad Butcher grocery store around 11:30 am local time.
During the incident, law enforcement engaged in gunfire with a lone suspect. Both officers and the suspect sustained injuries, but none are considered life-threatening, said Mike Hagar, Secretary of Public Safety and Director of Arkansas State Police.
These shootings add to a recent wave of gun violence across the United States, with the Gun Violence Archive reporting at least 21 other mass shootings since the previous Friday. The archive defines mass shootings as incidents where four or more individuals, excluding the perpetrator, are shot.
