43 Remain Hospitalized After Singapore Airlines Flight Faces Turbulence

Four days after the emergency, 43 passengers on a Singapore Airlines flight that experienced severe turbulence are still hospitalized in Bangkok, a hospital in the Thai capital reported on Saturday.

According to a statement from Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, the 43 patients are spread across three hospitals in Bangkok.

Seven patients—two Malaysians, one British, one New Zealander, and three Australians—are in critical care at Samitivej Srinakarin hospital, where 34 patients are being treated.

According to the statement, the other 27 patients from the flight who are now at the hospital are eight British, six Australian, five Malaysian, and two Filipino nationals.

Two people were discharged from Samitivej Srinakarin, while two from Samitivej Sukhumvit hospital were transferred to Samitivej Srinakarin to join hospitalised relatives, the statement said.

On Thursday, the Samitivej Srinakarin hospital director told reporters 22 patients had spinal cord injuries and six had brain and skull injuries, but none were life-threatening.

One passenger died of a suspected heart attack and dozens were injured on Tuesday after Singapore Airline Flight SQ321, flying from London to Singapore, encountered what the airline described as sudden, extreme turbulence while flying over Myanmar.

The flight carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew diverted to Bangkok for an emergency landing.
